About Mark Raney:
With over two decades of experience in the real estate industry, I have established myself as a respected figure in both the realms of real estate appraisal and real estate agency. My journey began in 1976 as a Construction Manager, overseeing notable projects such as the multi-million dollar addition and renovation to the Christ in the Desert Monastery in Abiquiu, NM, and the construction of the first multi-million dollar straw bale home in Palo Alto, CA.
Transitioning into the realm of Real Estate Agency in 1999, I operated as a diligent and knowledgeable Real Estate Agent until 2021. During this time, I honed my skills and built strong relationships within the local real estate community.
In 2002, I embarked on a parallel path as a Real Estate Appraiser, a role I continue to excel in to this day. Holding crucial certifications such as NM Licensure (2004), FHA Certification (2004), and NM Certification (2005), I have consistently demonstrated my commitment to professionalism and excellence in appraisal practice. Notably, I earned the prestigious SRA Designation in 2009, further solidifying my expertise in the field.
Throughout my career, I have actively contributed to the advancement of the real estate appraisal profession. Serving on the Board of Directors for the Rio Grande Chapter of the Appraisal Institute from 2012 to 2015 and assuming the role of Vice President in 2024, I have played a pivotal role in shaping industry standards and best practices.
Recognized as a Designated Expert Witness by the court in 2013 and designated as a Commissioner for Land Distribution in 2023, I have leveraged my expertise to provide valuable insights and guidance in legal proceedings.
My dedication to education and research is underscored by my academic pursuits, culminating in a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of New Mexico's Anderson Schools of Management. Additionally, I have engaged in graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma, specializing in Archaeoastronomy, a passion I actively pursue outside of my professional endeavors.
As an acclaimed speaker and published author in the field of Archaeoastronomy, have had the privilege of sharing my knowledge and insights at esteemed forums such as the Nusenda Credit Union, NM Mortgage Brokers, Realty 1, and the Urban Land Institute NM.
My research has been featured in renowned publications, including "Beyond Borders: Revealing the Greater Southwest’s Ancestral Cultural Landscape" (2020) and "Cultural Astronomy in Latin America" (2024).
Beyond my professional endeavors, I remain deeply engaged in the exploration of Archaeoastronomy, with notable presentations at the MAGIC Workshop in Brazil in 2023, where I explored the connections between stars and ceremonial timing in the American Southwest and Mesoamerica.
I am committed to excellence, integrity, and continuous learning in all aspects of my professional and personal life. It would be my honor to bring my wealth of experience and expertise to your esteemed organization.
